If you are hooked on icefalls and want to master the art of climbing them, this advanced training module is exactly what you need! Climbing, belaying, rappelling: you will learn everything you need to know to climb even the most tricky icefall in complete safety.

Program
This training module is for those who have attended the basic module or for those who already have some experience in climbing ice, but want to improve their skills and learn how to climb safely. The course’s main objective is to learn the triangle position to progress on vertical walls as well as all the tricks you need to know to climb icefalls safely.
Depending on your technical level, we can choose icefalls in the Cogne Valley, Valsavarenche, Valpelline, or we can opt for destinations with the best conditions to meet your needs and wishes.

1°Day
Meeting point: meeting in a suitable location for an introductory briefing. Equipment check and handing out of technical material.

A day dedicated to getting to know better the forces at play and to improve your management of the rope team’s safety. Then, we head to the icefall where you can learn and try out advanced progression techniques. The training programme for the day covers a close analysis of the tools and equipment, an introduction to the techniques for taking care and sharpening the tools, advanced progression and safety techniques, placing protections on ice and rock, identifying a rest place, preparing a lowering point, learning Abalakov thread and a comprehensive overview of risk factors in winter.

2°Day
The day is dedicated to climbing a multi-pitch icefall, with a focus on learning the proper techniques for placing ice screws and creating anchors.

3°Day
The last day is spent climbing a multi-pitch icefall, so you can put into practice the technical and safety notions you learned during the course under the supervision of the mountain guide.
Depending on the level of the participants, you may have the opportunity to lead the rope team.
